TRUSTcompany: The Lonely Position Of Neutral

By Jess Redmon

Shoutweb: 41down had a lot of credibility in the underground rock scene well before signing to Geffen. How did the decision come about to change your name? How did you guys decide on the TRUSTcompany moniker?

TRUSTcompany: We changed it because we didn’t want any confusion between us and Sum 41. We chose TRUSTcompany because it didn’t sound like an ordinary name. It kind of sounded underground like At The Drive-In or Sunny Day Real Estate.

Shoutweb: The first single "Downfall" has brought a lot of comparisons to Linkin Park. How do you feel about that? Do you think it's more to do with the production style of Don Gilmore? After people hear the record, do you think those comparisons will quickly diminish?

TRUSTcompany: I think Linkin Park is a great band that writes great songs. People will think what they want. We can’t change that. But a lot of these songs were written before we’d ever even heard of Linkin Park. So I think it could have something to do with the production style of Don Gilmore.

Shoutweb: How have your experiences on the Warped Tour been so far? Although your music isn't in the usual punk rock style of most Warped bands, how was the crowd reaction? Are you looking forward to getting back on later this month?

TRUSTcompany: Warped tour has been great. The reaction we have received has been great as well. It will be nice to rejoin the tour, because we’ve made some really good friends on that tour.

Shoutweb: When you first read the video treatment for "Downfall", what was your initial reaction? How do you feel about the final product?

TRUSTcompany: I loved the treatment. The video turned out better than I would have imagined. It was also a treat to work with Marcos Siega. He’s an incredible director.

Shoutweb: When looking for a title for the album, how did you guys come up with "The Lonely Position of Neutral"?

TRUSTcompany: It can apply to any situation. It’s the feeling of being stuck in the middle of a situation, and not knowing which way to go.

Shoutweb: Who would you cite as some of your main influences?

TRUSTcompany: Everyone in the band is influenced by a wide variety of bands. Some of the common ground is Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones, Glassjaw, Sunny Day Real Estate, Led Zeppelin, and The Used.

Shoutweb: "Falling Apart" is one of the standout tracks on the record. What's the story behind the song?

TRUSTcompany: To me, it’s about someone who pushes you as far as you can be pushed. To the point where you just can’t take it anymore and you are starting to fall apart as the song suggests.

Shoutweb: How would you describe the Montgomery scene? Was it a difficult place to break out of?

TRUSTcompany: There are a lot of bands there trying to do something. It is a difficult place to break out of. Simply because there aren’t a lot of places to play. If you want to play often, you have to go out of town.

Shoutweb: What song are you guys looking at for the next single?

TRUSTcompany: I think it will either be "Running From Me" or "Hover".

Shoutweb: There is a rumor of TRUSTcompany touring with Korn this Summer. Any truth to that rumor?

TRUSTcompany: Absolutely. We are going to Europe with Korn. We are almost positive that we will be doing the states with them after that.

Shoutweb: Anything that you would like to say to people or would like people to know about TRUSTcompany?

TRUSTcompany: I’d just like to thank them for taking the time out to listen to us and for giving us a chance. And if you come to our show, please come up and talk to us. We love meeting fans and hanging out with them. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!
