New Music: Thrice - Vheissu
|
| 15 October 2005 |
It can often be a treacherous leap when bands make a bold change in style and scope. In the case of
Thrice, where the respectable
The Artist In The Ambulance was a solid screamo post-hardcore release, Vheissu
is a prolific and daring album. The sometimes cliché style that coated the band’s previous endeavors is out, ushered in is a moody,
atmospheric style all their own. The first single "Image Of The Invisible" represents the transition from old to new, featuring the staple Thrice sound and
hints at new experimentation. From there Thrice dives into much deeper waters, especially on the new song "The Earth Is Shattering" which features an eerie chain gang and stirring sonic backdrops.
Songs like "Atlantic" and "For Miles" create such a broad, deeply moving experience. Where some modern bands would borrow heavily from newly infused inspirations,
the popular one today being Muse, Thrice have painted a familiar, yet inventive new musical world.
Although it is a difficult record to pull comparisons from, think Dredg, A
Perfect Circle, Mogwai, Deftones’ White Pony, Jimmy Eat World’s Futures and Sigur Rós all thrown together in a blender. Thrice have defined their new sound, a place that none of their many copycats will even be able to come close to.
Vheissu is Thrice’s modern masterpiece and one of the best albums of 2005.

Video: A Life Once Lost - "Vulture"
|
| 22 June 2005 |
Darren Doane
has directed classic clips for the likes of the Deftones, Thursday, Poison The Well,
Every Time I Die and Norma Jean. With his latest undertaking, the video for
"Vulture" by A
Life Once Lost, Doane has truly topped himself. The staggering video looks
like an excerpt from a chase scene in a big-budget Hollywood film, integrating
intense performance footage from the band. Not even the bloated multi-million
dollar videos from Puff Daddy in the late 90s were this engaging. Check out the video
here.
A Life Once Lost will release their new album, Hunter, via Ferret on
June 28th. You can pre-order the album and get an autographed booklet here.

Preview: Dredg - Catch Without Arms
|
| 17 June 2005 |
Catch Without Arms rings with optimism and care, carefully crafted and executed with sonic elegance provided by producer
Terry Date (Deftones, Staind). Dredg
have an understated power, reflectively unleashed in architecturally sound compositions like "Bug Eyes" and
"Catch Without Arms". While some of their material in the past may have been too obscure for some, Dredg have finally realized their potential
with lush, captivating songs and a haunting, yet calming sound that only Dredg can pull off. There has always been this powerful spiritual quality
about Dredg, few bands can pull off the type of epic music that seems to come
so naturally for Dredg. In our 2001 feature that documented the most
anticipated records of 2002, in that case being El Cielo, we
stated, "Since releasing their independent debut Leitmotif
in 1999, Dredg has made listeners speechless with the poetry of their spiritual
musical expressions." I think it is fair to say that Catch
Without Arms will have the same effect.

Slaves On Dope - MetafourCanadian rockers Slaves On Dope return with the follow-up to 2000's Inches From The Mainline. New Releases: Deftones, Powerman 5000, Staind, Less Than Jake
|
| 15 May 2003 |
New albums in stores this week: Deftones - DeftonesConsistent with the surreal dreamlike state of angst on White Pony, the fourth studio album from the Deftones is an atmospheric album with an edge. Stephen Carpenter injects ferocious guitar backing while Chino Moreno's enigmatic vocals hover above a cloudy layered haze. Powerman 5000 - TransformFollowing the canning of 2001’s ill-fated effort Anyone For Doomsday?, Spider One went back to the drawing board to construct a new version of Powerman 5000 and a more experimental approach to songwriting. Stripping down their sound and reinventing themselves, Transform is a solid rock record and a worthy follow-up to their platinum breakthrough Tonight The Stars Revolt. Staind - 14 Shades Of GreyThe latest record from Staind contains the same somber and melancholy song-driven rock present in the quieter moments of Break The Cycle. With a slightly more optimistic overtone than their previous works, 14 Shades Of Grey carefully rocks with contemplation and conviction. Less Than Jake - AnthemFlorida punk rockers Less Than Jake return with their first album in over 3 years. Anthem includes the same pure punk sound, furious energy and pop craftsmanship that has kept the band strong for over 10 years. |

Team Sleep Unveil Hypnotic Sounds
|
| 20 December 2001 |
Team Sleep are currently in the midst of a mini-tour of the West Coast. The band features Deftones' frontman Chino Moreno, guitarist Todd Wilkinson and DJ Crook. Team Sleep played a sold-out show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA on Wednesday. The show featured a guest appearance by Deftones guitarist Steph Carpenter and was the first chance for most people to hear the music of Team Sleep. Onlookers included Korn's Fieldy, B-Real of Cypress Hill and members of Papa Roach.
The dreamlike musical landscape of Team Sleep began with the inspired trance-inducing song "Natalie Portman". Chino Moreno is no less captivating with Team Sleep. His trademark screaming has, for the most part, been shelved for emphasis on hovering dreamy vocals and hynotic crooning. The music of Team Sleep is Massive Attack, meets Deftones' "Mascara", meets Mogwai, meets Deftones' "Teenager". DJ Crook creates an intoxicating backdrop of shadowed trip-hop sounds blended with an uplifting rock aura. Moreno blankets the ethereal tapestry with peaceful, meaningful singing and a relaxed layer of vocals that at times were like a lullaby and other times conflicted and full of tension. Team Sleep is not as subdued as many would think, many of the songs were as intense as the Deftones, though not quite as heavy. For the most part, Team Sleep is one of those very mellow bands that doesn't bring an incredibly exciting live show, but who create a laid-back vibe that you can sit back and trip on.
Team Sleep are expected to hit the road in 2002 for a U.S. club tour. The band's Maverick/Warner Bros debut is scheduled for release in Spring 2002. |

Deftones Enter The TRL Fold
|
| 31 July 2000 |
The Deftones became the latest rock band to appear on MTV's TRL countdown. The video "Change (In the House of Flies)" placed #8 in it's TRL debut. The debut is similar to that of the major breakthrough of P.O.D.'s "Rock The Party (Off The Hook)" video. Shoutweb's E-Street teams have played a major part in getting Deftones and P.O.D. the exposure they deserve. This continues the trend seen recently on TRL of "rock" bands making the countdown. The Deftones now join the ranks of other anti-pop artists including Korn, Papa Roach, Incubus, Kid Rock, P.O.D, Orgy and Limp Bizkit in making the TRL countdown. The Deftones are the latest band to challenge the evil pop music puppets NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Hanson and Christina Aguilera.

Fear Factory Post News On Upcoming Album
|
| 24 July 2000 |
Raymond from Fear Factory has written up a detailed break down of where they are at with their upcoming album. The band will be posting daily updates from the studio beginning September 5th on their official site, FearFactory.com. Here's the latest from the band:
"OK, here are the updates so far.
We will be recording in L.A. We have not picked a studio as yet, but we will pick one soon. As far as a producer goes, we are still looking into producers, but this is what we know: Bob Rock will NOT do the record, he said it was too heavy for him. Toby Wright will not do the record either, he is doing the new Ozzy record. The original plan was to do it ourselves with Rhys Fulber. Rhys will still be a part of this album no matter what, but we are still looking at producers. We will be going into the studio on September 5th and will have updates every day here at www.fearfactory.com once we get into the studio. We have 21 songs in total, with 8 for the album. We want to write 2 or 3 more for the album; the rest of the tracks will be b-side tracks, video game tracks, movie tracks, etc... Here are the details of each track for the album. 1. Digi Mortal 100bpm
This song is very much like Shock with groovy verses, a lot of triplets on the kick drums, and a very melodic chorus. 2. Lynch Pin 110bpm
This song is all about groove. Extremely catchy chorus, this will be the sing-along song for sure. Think of this as Replica meets Martyr. 3. Strain vs Resistance 82bpm
This is a very different song for us. It has a Rage Against The Machine groove to it, with a straight chorus; melodic again, with a U2 meets Ministry feel to it. 4. Byte Block 79bpm
This is probably the most industrial song we've got. It starts out with this killer guitar pattern into a kick drum pattern. Starts kind of like Zero Signal, but it is an alternating kick drum pattern, then breaks into parts of that pattern for the verses, into a straight heavy chorus like New Breed. 5. no title yet 130bpm
This song is sick; think of Freedom Or Fire on speed. This song once again has a melodic Burt-style chorus with Static-X type verses. Very fast stops and continues; Fear Factory trademark stuff on this one. 6. Acres Of Skin 122bpm
OK, plain and simple; If you remember the first song on the Pantera record Far Beyond Driven, than that is what this song is like. 7. Invisible Wounds 76bpm
This song is a lot like Descent, but even catchier. will also be a big sing-along song for sure. But then the middle turns into this extremely heavy Fear Factory mechanical type middle section. Very epic song like Resurrection. 8. Hurt Conveyor 63bpm
This song is a rock song all the way. The chorus has a Deftones touch to it."

Deftones Set To Redefine The EPK For "White Pony"
|
| 11 May 2000 |
While most artist EPKs (electronic press kits) feature fluff interviews and boring b-roll, Deftones' chose an unprecedented, radical alternative for their EPK supporting their upcoming Maverick album, "White Pony." More show than tell, as much style as substance, the "White Pony" EPK captures the essence of Deftones and their music, portraying a dark and disturbing world gone mad. The EPK will be available to media, retail, lifestyle accounts, and a wide variety of television and video outlets and art house theatres in early June, while the album arrives in stores on Tuesday, June 20.
This is not a typical EPK, not a music video clip, but an eight-minute conceptual short film that conveys the dark and sexual themes of the Deftones' "White Pony" tracks. The piece was written and directed by Shawn Foster of Naked Productions.
Shot at Lacey Studios in downtown Los Angeles, the EPK is about a day of change in an oppressive totalitarian future. Pustule-ridden citizens wear oxygen masks 24/7 -- even while making love -- as jack booted secret police hustle away all who dare to remove their masks. In this nightmare world, the Deftones can be seen performing three brand-new songs from "White Pony" -- "Street Carp," "Change (In the House of Flies)," "RX Queen" -- on TV screens, smooth-skinned, mask-free, embodying freedom and personal liberation.
With two Gold albums to their credit, Deftones have established themselves as one of the premier alt-metal bands. Combining punk, pop, hip-hop, and traditional metal, the Sacramento-based quintet consists of Chino Moreno on vocals, Stephen Carpenter on guitar, Chi Cheng on bass, Abe Cunningham on drums, and DJ Frank Delgado. Non-stop touring and appearances on soundtracks such as "The Matrix" have fed the buzz, and Deftones remain one of the most progressive and subversive bands in music today, as "White Pony" clearly shows.

Soulfly Unleash Mini-Series, Get Ready For "Primitive" Return
|
| 11 May 2000 |
Soulfly and Roadrunner Records have launched the Web TV episode of the 'Primitive Mini-Series documentary which features Max and guests working on their respective collaborations for Soulfly's upcoming album. Check out www.roadrunnerrecords.com for the show. Max Cavalera and his band Soulfly are currently in Phoenix's Salt Mine Studios recording their sophomore release for Roadrunner records. The working title of the album is Primitive, which is also the title of one of its outstanding tracks. "Making a record is like a ritual", says Cavalera. From this current inspired 'ritual', one can expect to hear experimental sounds (keyboards and samples) blended with traditional SOULFLY rough-and-ready guitar and bass riffs. Soulfly's lineup has changed a bit, over time. Cavalera and bassist, Marcello Dias are original members of the group who remain. They added guitarist, Mike Doling, formerly of SNOT to their lineup when touring in support of their last record, and recently added drummer, Joe Nunez, who comes to them from a local Chicago act. Invited guests - stellar members of the music world such as: Sean Lennon, Tom Araya(Slayer), Chino(Deftones) and Grady Avenell(Will Haven) - have joined the Soulfly 'tribe' for the making of Primitive. The guests have contributed to many tracks on the record, but Primitive still retains the sound that is uniquely Soulfly.
One track, "Pain", was written collectively by Max, Chino and Grady. The song is dedicated to Dana, Cavalera's wife's son ("Bleed" from the self-titled debut album was based on the circumstances of Dana's untimely death). "Max is fun to work with...we both think on rhythm rather than making hit choruses," says Chino.
"Son Song" was written by Max and Sean Lennon. Both artists suffered the loss of their fathers at a young age and in this song they express grief, while also celebrating and remembering their mentor's lives. |

Deftones Set Official Tracklisting For "White Pony" Album
|
| 03 May 2000 |
The Deftones have officialy set the tracklisting for "White Pony". Unofficial Deftones site, TheDeftones.com has announced the confirmed titles:
1. Fieticeira (mp3 listed as 'New murderer')
2. Digital Bath (mp3 listed as'Nightrider')
3. Elite
4. RX Queen (mp3 listed as 'Iceskates')
5. Street Carp (mp3 listed as 'Fieticeira')
6. Teenager (mp3 listed as 'Digital Bath')
7. Knife Party (mp3 listed as Kfe Party At The Niko')
8. Korea (mp3 listed as 'White Pony')
9. Passenger
10. Change (in The House Of Flies)
11. Pink Maggot Chino has also given TheDeftones.com a detailed run down of each track.
Feiticeira
"An old type of deftones song, with really cool rhythms and heavy soft
dynamics. Its named after a Brazilian female, but its lyrically about a kidnapping scenario. It details a few hours of being held captive. there's a lot of dialogue in there that was fun to write"
Digital Bath
"Abe and I wrote this one, and I play guitar on it. its real celestial
sounding with intimate singing. there's a big story behind it. most of
the songs on this album are about different situations"
Elite
"probably the hardest song we have ever written. its really straight
forward and doesn't have typical deftones dynamics. its just heavy. I
use a vocoder which gave my voice a demonic robot effect"
rx queen
"The most futuristic sounding song. Abe and I created the drum loop -
its a crazy, bionic rhythm. I wrote a seedy guitar line over it, and
worked with Scott Weiland (stone temple pilots) on the vocals for the
bridge. he came up with a really cool harmony for me to sing"
Street Carp
"A classic deftones song, with a rolling riff and some really
interesting chords in the chorus. the vocals are kinda crazy - I'm
singing out loud over the top of the music, like (the smiths front man) Morrissey or something, a cool contrast"
Teenager
"This was originally a team sleep song. its acoustic and electric,
with pink floydy keyboards. kinda trancey. lyrically, its a teenage
love story, which sounds pretty goofy, but its actually alright"
Knife Party
the record company wanted this to be the first single, but I battled
them because it was a little to weird. its a seductive song with a
lot of violent imagery. people don't tend to like sex mixed with
violence. the mid section has amazing vocals from a girl called
Rodleen who worked next door tour studio"
Korea
"The first song we wrote for the record. we played it live on the us
ozzfest. real heavy and bouncy"
Passenger
this is the one with Maynard. its about being a passenger on a cry
journey - we have a lot of car songs! Maynard and I trade off in the
verses. its a lot like a tool song, where it goes through different
phases. me and Maynard have been friends for a while"
Change
"that's the first single we are putting out in America. its not mellow
but very washy. its a bit like be quiet and drive. I play guitar on
that one too. its a beautiful metamorphis"
Pink Maggot
"It starts off really spacey and freaky with just guitars, vocals and
turntables. then it turns into just me, and ends up a triumphant
anthem about being on top of the world and feeling like the coolest
kid in school"

And I told him about the concept of the song, what I wanted it to be, just like, being in this car. He really used a lot of cool imagery, and we traded off, line for line, as opposed to, 'This is my part, this is his part.' Our voices, for some reason, they just work together."
Meanwhile the new track "Change" is the track formerly known as "Flint" also formerly known as "Flint Eastwood". The tentative tracklisting for the bands new album which hits stores June 20th through Maverick/Warner in a limited edition print of 50,000 black and 50,000 red jewel cases which will each feature modified cover art and bonus tracks is as follows:
"Iceskates"
"White Pony"
"Change"
"New Murderer"
"Spiraling" (Feat. B-Real of Cypress Hill)
"Digital Bath"
"Change"
"Knife Party At The Niko"
"Feiticeira"
"Passenger" (Feat. Maynard James Keenan of Tool/A Perfect Circle)
"Elite"
"Pink Maggit"

Deftones Make Plans For "The White Pony" Release.
|
| 17 April 2000 |
The Deftones will release their highly anticipated album, "White Pony," on June 20, and have some surprises for fans when the CD arrives.
When the full-length "White Pony" LP hits stores, it will feature several CD-Rom enhancements that were put together by Mike Donk, a longtime follower of the band who runs a popular fan-based website. Donk was allowed to document the group through all stages of the recording of their new LP and has included some of that footage on the CD. Other extras include photos of the Deftones at their Sacramento rehearsal studio, the recording studio, and at home, along with handwritten notes from the band members, a multi-media game and more.
On June 1, the Deftones will host what is being billed as an Internet "House Party" from the Arcadia club on Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles. Three hundred friends, fans, and other guests will be invited to attend the event at which band members will showcase their favorite selections from "White Pony." The event will be broadcast live over the Internet at www.deftones.com.
"White Pony" will also be available in a limited quantity of special edition CDs, 50,000 in red jewel cases and 50,000 in black. Those discs will also feature a bonus track and the enclosed booklet and packaging will vary slightly depending on the color of the jewel case.
The Deftones' Maverick Recordings label will also produce a six-minute electronic press kit film for "White Pony." The film shows a totalitarian, oppressive future where gas masks and oxygen tanks are required for survival. As the story develops, The Deftones and their music are revealed as a form of relief from the chaos. The EPK will be available to fans in "PG" and "R"-rated versions via Maverick's street team, and will be shipped to skateboard shops, skateboard parks, and numerous retail outlets, including the video for "White Pony's" first single, "Change." Maverick also has plans to screen the EPK as a short film at various "art house" theaters around the country.
An early taste of the album hits stores on May 8 with "Change," the first single offering from "Pony." Thanks to MTV |

Soulfly To Play Abril Pro Rock Fest
|
| 07 April 2000 |
Max Cavalera and his band Soulfly will take a break from recording their new LP, "Primitive," to play for Brazilian fans during the Abril Pro Rock 2000 Festival.
The group will leave its recording studio in Phoenix to take to the stage at Centro de Convenções de Recife on Saturday, April 8.
Soulfly has been dedicating its time to the completion of its next album, which is tentatively set for an August release. The LP will boast the seemingly unlikely presence of Sean Lennon (son of Beatle John Lennon), who was invited by Cavalera to compose some songs for the disc and is also expected to appear on the new record.
Tom Araya from Slayer has also put in studio time with the band on a track called "Terrorist," and the Deftones' Chino Moreno lent vocals to the track "Pain" with Will Haven's Grady Avenell. In the production seat is Toby Wright, who has also worked with Korn, Alice In Chains, and Sevendust.
Since 1993, Abril Pro Rock has featured new alternative bands from Recife, and the festival has brought underground acts such as Mundo Livre S/A and Chico Science & Nação Zumbi to a wider audience.
The 2000 edition of Abril Pro Rock will extend beyond Recife to include bands from all over the country, such as Plebe Rude (Brasília), Paralamas do Sucesso, Bia Grabois, Vulgue Tostói (Rio), Shiva Las Vegas, and Andrea Marquee (São Paulo). Soulfly will add an international touch alongside Aterciopelados (Bogotá), and Bloco Vomit (Scotland). Thanks to MTV |

Detailed Overview Of The New Deftones Album
|
| 24 March 2000 |
TheDeftones.com now features an exclusive overview of the upcoming Deftones album, "The White Pony" which was produced by Terry Date. The album will be released June 20th through Maverick/Warner. Make sure to check out their unofficial site at www.thedeftones.com. Here is the run down: 1. "Iceskates" - This was the first "Untitled" track on MTV news special...starts out the album kinda quiet and moody with techno-ey drum loops (if you've seen the MTV News thing, you'll understand) and contains the line "I won't stop following you". This is believed to be one of the modified Team Sleep tracks that made the cut of the record. As the song progresses, it builds into the heavier part displayed on the "newshit.mp3" the deftones distributed over the internet 2. "White Pony" - Another song many fans have probably already heard from live mp3's or from OzzFest '99, the album version finally does justice to the track as its much clearer and heavier than the quality of the live mp3's. The song remains the same save for a few more guitar melodies and effects were added throughout the verses and the choruses, slightly different vocal melodies, and features new lyrics, basically embellishments made in the studio. 3. "Flint" - This was the third track previewed on the MTV News special. Once was called Flint Eastwood, but shortened to Flint since the name didn't really fit with the band or the song. The lyrics include the lines "I look at the cross, I look away, now give me the gun, and blow me away" on the quieter verses. The chorus part sounds a lot like Smashing Pumpkins with some sweet vocal melodies. A prime example of their newly emphasised quieter side, and of their new record, Flint is my personal favorite, cut, and would make for a good single, possibly the first. 4. "New Murderer" - The track name on this tune is still tentative, but this is another contender for the first single. The lyrics deal with being kidnapped and being forced to do things that would make you uncomfortable and the song, while it has its heavy moments, never quite approaches the ferocity most of the tracks on Around the Fur possessed, and as Chino has said, is a bit more soothing. 5. "Spiraling" - A track recorded with B-Real of Cypress Hill that almost didn't make the cut of the album, a bit more hip hop oriented than almost anything they've ever done, but don't expect it to be anything like another "n 2 gether now". It was the track played on the "trippy trailer" or "stony bird's eye view" to give you an idea. 6. "Digital Bath" - As with the last track, this where DJ Frank gets to cut loose with a lot more ambient noise. This is where the deftones go for that ambient techno trip hop vibe they described when discussing a bit about the new directions they were taking. 7. "Knife Party At The Niko" - The second half of the album kicks off hitting the ground running with the interestingly titled "Knife Party". It's a brutal, fast paced, high energy, screeching track that pushes the extreme loud side of the band for most of the track, the second heaviest track on the album. 8. "Feiticeira" - A more midtempo, and beautifully melodic tune like "Flint", one of the more, saucy love tunes Chino was speaking of in reference to the songs on the record, another favorite... 9. "Input" - This is the tentative title for the track Maynard of Tool recorded with the band. The beginning of this track was played in the background towards the very end of the MTV News special when they were talking about calling and talking to Fred Durst about being scared about making their new records. Listen closely on that part of the interview for a taste, quiet guitar and dark atmospheric vocals, much like the quieter parts of "Fist". It builds into a heavier part over the course of the track and features a pretty damn exceptional duet w/ Maynard and Chino. 10. "Elite" - THIS IS THE HEAVIEST TRACK ON THE RECORD...bottom line. It may still fall a little short of the ferocious attack of "Lotion" or "Headup" and is slightly more in the vein of the more melodic approach of the new disc, but this scathing metal track should satiate the cravings of fans who still dig their heaviest sounds. This is the closest the record gets to approaching the fury of the tracks on ATF. So for the ones only in it for the hard and heavy, only listen to tracks 2,7, and 10. The others who are open minded, listen to it in its entirety. 11. "Pink Maggit" - Since there are eleven listed tracks this time around, this is not a secret track, and well..just the last listed track. Fans may have heard parts of this tune in two places. First there's their Ozzfest 99 appearances and live mp3's in which the beginning part of this song was played as an intro to "Be Quiet and Drive". This part of the song was a somber melodic passage with Chino's impassioned vocals blaring over it. The song as it is now has that quieter part as the beginning, leading up to a heavier part previewed on MTV News 1515 as the second song played. It contains the lines "Back in school, we are the leaders" and is meant to serve as a high school anthem that says don't wallow in your misery, go do something about it cuz you're the man, and go out and live, fitting with the theme of this album. It's a pretty neat way to end the album... *12. "Untitled" - As there were reportedly 12 songs slated for the record a few months ago, this 12th track is something Chino spoke of briefly in an interview in early 99. The interview if you can find it was his year in review of 98 and he was discussing the latest song he'd written, which he said was an acoustic interlude he wrote on guitar that he was really excited about putting at the very end of the next record. Whether this acoustic interlude makes it on the record unlisted on either track 12 or hidden after track 11, or whether it'll end up on the final pressing of the album is as of yet uncertain. |

Family Values 2000, Fred's High Hopes
|
| 02 March 2000 |
Fred Durst appeared on KROQ Los Angeles on Thursday morning. During the
interview, he unveiled his lofty plans for Family Values 2000. He hopes to
get Korn, Limp Bizkit, The Deftones, Rage Against The Machine, Ruff Ryders
and Wu Tang Clan for the tour.
The interview consisted of the basic "what's go on" with Limp Bizkit
talking about how he met Staind, feature films he might direct and how they
want to release their new album on July 4th, for an event dubbed
"Limpdependence Day". Fred also took the time to diss every band that sent
him a demo tape, basically implying their lack of commercial quality.
Expect more news on Family Values 2000 to come. Don't expect that line-up
though... |
Cypress Hill's "Superstar" And Album News
|
| 28 February 2000 |
The first single from Cypress Hill "Superstar" is currently impacting urban
and alternative radio0. There are two versions of 'Superstar' - 'Rock
Superstar' and 'Rap Superstar': same song, different versions. "(Rap)
Superstar" contains excerpts from interviews with Noreaga and Eminem while
"(Rock) Superstar" contains excerpts from interviews with Everlast and Chino
Moreno (Deftones) discussing the problems they've countered in the course of
their respective careers and their advice to naive beginners just getting
started.
The new album from Cypress Hill "Skull & Bones" (out May 2nd) is a 14 - 16
track album that features a 50/50 mix of traditional Cypress hip-hop and
newer, harder and aggressive rock-leaning tracks. The rock tracks feature
guest artists Fear Factory (bassist Christian Olde Wolbers and guitarist
Dino Cazares), Rage Against The Machine (drummer Brad Wilk), and SX10 (Sen
Dog's rock band). Always groundbreakers and always following their own path,
Cypress Hill have created an album with "Skull & Bones" that shows the two
sides of their sound and philosophy.
Expect some listening parties of the album on 4/20. |
